SCHOLASTIC MISSION

Enfance et Paix directs two schools free of tuition fees in Senegal, one in Sédhiou and in one in Dakar, consisting of a pre-school, a primary and secondary school, and a college. Our scholastic mission, however, is to enable local people to help themselves, by providing them both with the means to educate themselves and with a strong incentive to do so. The main aim of our work, therefore, is to enhance the scholastic system in Senegal generally and to revive the educational system in the Southern region of Casamance, particularly in what have been zones of insecurity. We attempt to do this by:

  • Providing housing, medical assistance, food and education for children displaced or otherwise affected by the Casamance conflict.

  • Providing housing, medical assistance, food and education for juvenile parents, especially young single mothers.

  • Monitoring scholastic canteens with 300 partner schools in the Casamance, in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), by providing every child who attends school with a free meal after classes.

  • Building and providing classroom equipment for our partner schools

  • Training of community volunteers
